Each year undergraduate students in the Photography Area at The City College of New York, CUNY, build an exhibition of their work. A group of advanced students organize the show and also actively welcomes photography students at all levels to submit work. A group of students then thoughtfully curate and install the exhibition in the Compton Goethals Art Department gallery.

The photography show always opens with a vibrant reception hosted by current students, faculty, staff, and alumni. This celebration is a highlight of our academic year. The opening also serves as the main fundraiser for the Joe Harris Scholarship Fund, honoring the Harlem-based photographer and CCNY professor, Joe Harris.  The scholarship fund supports minority students concentrating in photography at CCNY.

The annual "regular" call for submissions went out just as the COVID-19 closure was mandated.  As with students and artists throughout the world, there was a quick move to adapt and adjust to the new circumstances. The photography students wanted the show to still happen and they did everything possible to share their own and other's work online, in a different form, but without a compromised vision.

Please enjoy the 2020 Annual CCNY CUNY Student Photography Exhibition. We are proud of the hard work of our staff and students as they worked to sustain this long-running tradition under the current circumstances.

Special thanks to all of the volunteers who made this online exhibition happen and to all of the students in the 2020 exhibition for their inspiring work.

The Joe Harris fundraiser is still active. Click here for more information.
